The Spring Wrenching News Antique Wrench Auction will be held after the Missouri Valley Wrench Club Spring Meet in York, Nebraska. This year's auction has wrenches form the collections of Dale Radiel of Sharon Springs, Kansas and Don Ervin of Surrey, Maine.

This year Glenn Lofdahl has photographed and cataloged Dale Radiel's farm wrenches and other farm related items and Don Haury has done Don Ervin's mostly adjustable wrenches.

Dale Radiel had a body repair shop and farmed in Sharon Springs, Kansas He said he has been interested in old wrenches since he was in High School and was buying them at farm auctions in the1960's when they would go for less than a dollar a bucket full. He began to collect wrenches more seriously around 2001 after selling his lambs because he thought nobody else collected old wrenches. In 2001 he joined the Missouri Valley Wrench and attended most of the meets and auctions since then. He is keeping his extensive IHC collection and thinning down the rest.

Don Ervin has been collecting wrenches for around thirty five years and attended most of the major wrench meets and auctions during that time and amassed a large collection of rare and unique wrenches. He is also an accomplished machinist and restorer. He has made from scratch several wrenches that aren't know to have been made using the patent drawings This is one of several auctions we have had for Don as he continues to down size his extensive collection. Many of Don's wrenches came from the collection of Herb Page which Don acquired several years ago and are so noted in the descriptions.

A WORD ON CONDITION: Because of the character of their use and storage wrench condition can hardly be judged to the same standards as other tools. I try to use the broad categories of condition: Poor. Fair. Good. Good+. Good++. Excellent. and Excellent. like new. I also try to note all faults such as missing parts. cracks. pitting. over cleaning. repairs. etc. Likewise the wrenches in this auction that are in exceptional fine or excellent condition have been so noted. even a common wrench that has survived the years in almost unused condition is a rarity. Both Herb Page and Don Ervin are experts at restoring old wrenches and so most of Don's wrenches in this auction have been restored including if needed: mechanism repaired, sprung jaws aligned, new handles made and metal parts refinished.

Other info:
* Measurements are usually rounded off to the nearest 1/4".
* The markings on the wrenches are in all capital letters.
* a / separates markings on one side of the wrench from the other side.
* If a wrench is misnumbered in a photo the description number will prevail.
* To search for a particular wrench or company (for example IHC. Deere. Coes. adjust etc.) use the find on this page in the edit menu. I have tried to list the company or companies associated with each wrench.
